It´s been said that it was made in england .. but if you look at the scenes outside the house it looks more like a street somewhere in california to me ... the date of creation is also unclear .. imbd.com says it´s been made in 1928 ... my information is that it was made in 1924/25

never the less... i relly do enjoy those old slippery stuff
it´s always a real pleasure to see how much thoughts went into the "script" to have a reason to show people without clothes on :)

I think "Behind Locked Doors"/"The Human Gorilla" is pretty much the same story as the Humphrey Bogart movie "Midnight" which was reissued as "Call It Murder". The reissue prints didn't carry a copyright notice. For years labels exploited "Call it Murder" as PD until the successor in ownership started to assert the rights associated with the original release (notice, regstered, renewed). I think the same thing happened with "Human Gorilla" as all the PD discs are deleted and only the "official" Kino Video version is abvailable.

I stumbled across this link while researching PD titles. I host the last regularly broadcast hosted horror movie show on broadcast television. We are running out of PD titles that fit our criteria. (See zomboo.com & click on the rack girl photo to view the promo). I need help with the following titles to verify if they are in the public domain: Giant from the Unknown, The H-Man, Monster From Green Hell, Half Human, Astounding She-Monster, Hideous Sun Demon, and Cat-Women of the Moon, Man Made Monster.
As many of the movies are short, we play a serial chapter after the film. Are any of these serials PD? Flying Disc Man from Mars, Crimson Ghost, or Mysterious Dr. Satan. In an earlier post, it is said Crimson Ghost is not PD, however there are many posts on the internet now saying that it is. Any help will prolong our 11 year project another year. It is a labor of love, and we're lucky if we break even. Your old pal, ZOMBOO (zomboo@zomboo.com)

Also "Body of the Prey" on this site. You may know it as "Revenge of Dr. X." This version has corrected titles & credits.
Keep that freak flag flying! I grew up in NE Ohio, where we had FOUR horror hosts coming out of Cleveland at the same time: Big Chuck & Little John, Superhost, The Ghoul, and Frank & Drac. I really miss UHF!

sorry to drag this into feature films. Is there a book, similar to films superlist, that contains a listing PD books or renewed info. We know that the copyright website only goes back to 1978. Are then any other resources?

Thank you for the detailed information. I enjoy reading your posts and respect your expertise as my research complies with yours. A couple of further questions if you don't mind... Can you give me more details why Atomic Submarine is PD as I would love to use this on our show. Do you know of any PD sci-fi serials besides Undersea Kingdom, Zorro's Fighting Legion, Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, Phantom Creeps, Radar Men From the Moon? I'll probably end up using Phantom Empire if I can't find another title... just have to find a good quality transfer. On a broader range, I am by no means an expert on copyrights (I'm an old guy, self taught), but I thought there was a short window to reregister under GAT and I thought H-Man missed that window. In the LOC, it is listed first as it's Japanese title, then H-Man as an alternate title. If the documentation of the film is deposited in the LOC as the Japanese-language version, does that negate the English version? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks ... some strikes again :)

About "Betty's Bath" (1928) this was one of the most successful erotic title of the early days of cinema (by the number of copies circulating worldwide at that time)
it´s origin is very shady ... the rumor goes that it was made by employees of an major movie studio in their spare time

I had information that the film was made in Europe.

The question with early stag films/pornography is whether it was actually "published" under the law. These were underground films, even though the outline of this film suggests that it is pretty tame by 1928 standards. As an unpublished and unregistered work (it wasn't registered) its still under copyright for a total term of 120 years from its creation so it wouldn't enter the public domain untill 2048.
